Ok what am I doing wrong? I have been using the neti for a few days as I have the flu and very stuffed up (making it impossible now to use my apap swift nasal mask)
EVERYTIME I use it, I do the mouth breathing advised on the instructions. A very trickly bit of the water comes out of my nose. The rest of it comes out of my mouth and the "enter" nostril....I end up soaking wet a mess all over my clothing, no matter how I position my head or the pot. I'm thinking there must be some trick w/the breathing. Please educate me!!!! Help!!!! Could it be the size of my nares? They are large. So the spout doesn't seal. Or my upturned nose? Yikes. There are so many how to videos on the net that show people w/a strong stream coming down. It looks so simple. Terry

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the Neti pot. I love mine -- it's helped so much.

First of all, I think you'd get more response if the subject line was more specific, and if you mentioned that you were having Neti pot issues.

That said, I think that to get it to work right, you might have to try leaning your head further to the side. Is it possible that your neck has limited motion range? If so, then perhaps you'd have more success with one of those squirt bottles, instead of a neti pot.

I wonder if you can also try to create some kindof "seal" so the water doesn't enter your mouth: try to have your tongue press as far back as possible against the opposite side of the mouth. Just a guess here. perhaps others know more about the structure of the mouth than me...

In any case, keep at it. it's a GREAT tool to clear the nostrils.

I had the same problem when first started. You're sinuses might be very clogged, but you do need a good seal on the neti pot. You may need to move your throat in such a way to seal it off. A good way to test on how to do that is to put on your CPAP mask and then try to block the air flow with your throat. That's the same move I do when using my neti pot, and yes I can still breathe while doing it.

I have never tried a Neti Pot. I use a nasal irrigator. It has a large plug at the end that seals the nostril. Works like a charm every time.

It holds 2 oz of water and I do one on each side. I just tilt my head a little to the side and voila!

And Go at it.

I heard the trick is to KEEP your mouth open.
I don't know, but it works for me.

You might try the NealsMed bottle, see if it works better for you. CVS, $12 bucks. Better than a trip to the Doctor

I feel your frustration. Nasal Irrigation can be so beneficial when your sick and you want to keep your CPAP therapy going, preventing you from getting run down.

When I'm that clogged, I keep in mind about water traveling where it's not supposed to go. And, blowing my nose both before during and after nasal irrigation can give me more leverage. That's the ticket!!

I never used a neti pot but I have used the bottle. I now hae a grossan nasal irrigator I use when needed but not daily.

I started with the bottle and switched to this. I still keep a bottle around for when I travel.

Irrigation does help when your sick or congested.

Yep Gerry, I know this method is superior. I use a WaterPik with the Rhino Tip. I chose the Water Pik because you can use it for your teeth also...

After a year's use, I'm wondering what the distinction, wear and tear, between the Water Pik and your product. Seems like a lot of 'back pressure' on the Water Pik. Also, I'm very careful about the saline solution inside the components.
