I havent talked myself into taping yet so I still use a chinstrap with my nasal mask. I got my strap from the VA and I dont know who the manufacturer is.It is about 4 inches wide,white,and velcro's. It's not the most comfortable thing to use and I am wondering what else might be out there. I havent heard much more about the cpap caps since they have come out but I think a different strap might work best. Does the strap have to be so wide for instance?

So just tell me what you use and how you like it,your experiences with chinstraps,etc...Thanks in advance for any insight and help that is given. David

Yhanks LSAT for your feedback. No one else seems too interested in offering any advice or experiences so I went with your advice and ordered a papcap from pur-sleep.I have used them before and Brett is awfully helpful. Thanks again.

From what I have learned: a wide strap is MUCH better, the closer to the front of your head the better. That's why the papcap's designed the way it is. They have videos on the web site.

Well,Mine is like 4 inches wide but it drives me nuts. I do not like the feel of the elastic material against my skin and it makes my face break out, not to mention pulling hair out. Papcap says it can alleviate all of that nonsense so I am looking forward to getting it.

Neoprene should be banned in my opinion...cotton is the only way to go. This little cap has really improved my compliance and I am happy to hear that it's helping others. As always I am hungry for feedback, including problems, issues, and potential ways to improve it.

Bearcat, I use that same chinstrap you're using, and I find it MORE comfortable, and less irritating to my skin than any other. See, we're all individual.

So far, I haven't found what I consider the one single BEST chinstrap out there for every person. I do tell people that neoprene is hot and can irritate your skin. You may not want to go with the neoprenes. And IMHO, "Breathe-o-prene" is no improvement on the concept. And the "chincup and thin strap" models don't get any good reviews anywhere, that I can see.

So far, the ones I see touted the most are the Pap Cap, and the Deluxe Chinstrap, which Is the one I use, and the one I think you're using. I have found ways to modify the Deluxe to work better for me, including sewing Velcro One Wrap tabs to it to secure my mask side hoses directly to the chinstrap. And using the front and back velcro straps only in back, in a criss-cross fashion, to avoid my ears.

I use the Premium chin strap that I bought from cpap.com, it seems to work fine. I paid $24 for it and $6 shipping; I think it was worth it. It has a strap that goes around the back of your head to keep it in place better than your standard chin strap. I didn’t opt for the hat because I get hot really easy and would probably end up all sweaty.

At my orientation the tech told me that I wouldn’t need a chin strap because eventually you learn to sleep with your mouth closed, that’s another reason why I didn’t spend a lot. I would start out with something simple but that’s just me.

I'll second that, the PapCap worked for me until i went with a FFM. I can see it being a hard to use if you have big hair though

I started with the Ruby Tiara, then the PapCap and even tried taping a few nights. No leaks with the taping but I would get the tape all wet by morning.

In the end I went fullface and its just more comfortable for me. I don't have the TMJ jaw issues that I had fighting the chinstrap.

I have also achieved generally lower numbers with fullface.

Everybodies different however.

Let's just get rid of the straps and the masks and all that jazz:

PAPcap for me all the way! Works great and no jaw/head pain like I had with a regular strap. I was hoping I would be able to train myself to sleep with my mouth closed, but I have been unsuccessful in 9 months to do so.

I have a Respironics FullLife FF mask, but I haven't been able to get a good seak at my pressures (14.4.-17).

I agree. I have "big hair" and have trouble with the papcap. My mask actually stays in place better without it because I pull my hair through the back strap. I wish I had purchased JUST the chinstrap from pur-sleep.

My hair is kept very short and I am hoping that the papcap will be a good fit for me.

Now, that's a novel idea -- no straps and no mask pressing on the face! It may put a crimp in your neck when you lie down, though. I guess you could learn to sleep sitting up, but the bubble may get heavy.

I cast my vote for the PAPcap chin strap. It works great for me. I do have very short hair though.
